The morning rush hour from the north of Antwerp is particularly difficult on Wednesday, after a rear-end collision between two trucks on the Antwerp ring road towards Ghent. The accident happened at the Merksem viaduct. The Liefkenshoek tunnel has been made toll-free for those who have to go to Bruges or Ghent.

“One of the two drivers was trapped for a while and had to be freed from the vehicle. In the meantime, they have both gone to the hospital for a check-up, but one of the two drivers has closed the cabin, which is currently making the towing difficult. As a result, the disruption could take quite some time.”

The collision initially left only one lane open, but now there are two. “But the result remains the same: on the E19 from the Netherlands you drive two hours from Brecht. It is also an hour of traffic jam on the A12 from Stabroek until the collision.”

Anyone traveling from the A12 to Bruges or Ghent is recommended to drive at the Antwerp-Haven junction via the R2 to the E34 and E17.

From the E19 you can drive towards the A12 via the Antwerp-Noord junction and then follow the same route. (debn)
