From tomorrow April 4 to May 14, the shop windows in the center of Lochristi will look even more colorful. At eighteen locations you can enjoy the best cartoons from the international competition that Cultuursmakers has once again launched. Locally, there is a real cartoon search linked to it, so that you can turn it into a cultural walking or cycling tour. Be amazed by color, the wonder of light.

Cultuurmakers just celebrated its 100th anniversary in 2022, and one of the success stories was the international cartoon competition. It also resulted in a mobile exhibition, which then visited Lodejo, in collaboration with Lo-Art and Hermeline. This year the traveling exhibition will be in the windows of a number of shophouses in the village of Lochristi.

From the complete range of all entries – 1004 cartoons from 65 countries and 6 continents – the ultimate selection can also be seen with us. The greatest common denominator is color, and a cartoonist can go in all directions with it: from traffic lights to a chameleon – of course -, switches, lights, spotlights, to balloons and rainbows: they all led to funny inspiration for so many artists. ‘Color is the wonder of light’ is a quote by poet Marc Van Halsendaele (1921-2006) that was the impetus for the cartoon competition. There is also a competition linked to it for culturos: you can download the participation form here, or you can also pick up the paper version at the Reinaert Library in Koning-Boudewijnlaan.

Until May 16, you will have the opportunity to participate and answer the fifteen questions. These are about what you see – of course – but also about the countries of the participants in question, the laureates, the colors and some counting work that you have to do.

Prizes can be won in the form of tickets for events organized by Cultuursmakers in the coming months. The main prize is tickets for the 24th edition of the World Soundtrack Awards on October 16 in the Bijloke in Ghent.

Starting tomorrow, April 4, you can browse around with a smile and a little attention to light and color (and the traffic in the center of Lochristi) at De Koning Verzekeringen and Crelan, Frau, Optiek Van De Weghe, Close Up, Leonidas, Bloembinderij Naudts, bakery De Waele, Standaard Boekhandel, Print & Co, ‘t Bobijntje, Vapeshop, Elektro Ongena, La Bella Donna, Jo + Liz, Interio, A Propos, Lorenti Fashion Shoe and Wildiers (e)Bike Center.
