Antwerp

Every weekday our reporter and photographer pick a random passerby from the street for a nice conversation. Because everyone has a story. And certainly in Antwerp. Today: Ida Volckerick (74) and Frank Aerts (75).

“If we are no longer there, the catering industry will fly a black flag (laughs). We are real Burgundians. We really enjoy going to a restaurant as a couple or with friends or family. We would rather not reveal our favorite spot. Because it is already busy enough.”

“But etc We will still reveal our secret tip: Upton in Napelsstraat is really our favorite. The cook lived in Japan. He focuses mainly on contemporary cuisine in which Italian influences can be found with the occasional oriental wink.”

“We have been married for 51 years, but we have known each other much longer. We grew up on the same street. As we got older the spark flew. Do we have any tips for a long and successful marriage? We don’t actually talk to each other for hours and communicate everything clearly. In our opinion, both partners should be able to do what they want. But of course we cannot guarantee whether that is golden advice. Every couple is different.” (n.d.)
