Dutch triathlete Els Visser is having a great season and has shown that she is in top form in recent weeks. On Saturday morning Belgian time she won the Challenge Taiwan half triathlon after another strong performance on the bike. It is her third top performance in two weeks, after a third place in the T100 Singapore triathlon and victory last week in the 70.3 Ironman Lapu-Lapu in the Philippines. In the men’s race, the victory went to New Zealand triathlete Jack Moody.

Els Visser emerged from the water at 3’15 from Swiss triathlete Alanis Siffert, but turned that deficit into a lead of more than 4 minutes during the 90 km cycling over Lottie Lucas, the triathlete from the United Arab Emirates. Siffert followed after 7 minutes. Els Visser did not relinquish her leading position in the half marathon. She won convincingly in 4h08’37. Alanis Siffert came second at 5’41 and Lottie Lucas took third place at more than 10 minutes.

In the men’s race we had a great battle between Kiwi Jack Moody and Portuguese triathlete Filipe Azevedo. The Portuguese was the first to emerge from the water after 23’52. Moody followed in a group at 1’38 but made up a lot of time on the bike. In the half marathon it was an exciting duel with Moody ultimately as the fastest runner. He went up and over Azevedo and won the Challenge Taiwan in 3h49’14. Azevedo came second at 55 seconds. Australian Joel Woodridge took third place, more than 8 minutes behind Moody. No Belgian pros participated in Taiwan.
