The new station has six chargers with a maximum capacity of 400 kW, good for twelve charging places. This means that Knokke-Heist in Westkapelle has the largest Fastned fast charging station in Belgium. Electric drivers can charge their cars with green energy from the sun and wind.

Charging points with a charging capacity of 400 kW are still rare in Belgium for the time being. The powerful fast chargers can add up to 100 km of range in just three minutes, provided the car supports such a speed. During 2024, the Westkapelle fast charging station will be expanded with additional facilities such as a toilet and a coffee machine to further improve the customer experience during charging.

Clear commitment

“The municipal council of Knokke-Heist is committed to providing approximately 1.5 charging points per 100 inhabitants on our territory by 2030,” says Knokke mayor Jan Morbee. “This amounts to approximately 495 charging points in our seaside resort. The government aims to have an accessible charging station every 250 meters for citizens who cannot charge on their own property. Recently, 40 new active public charging stations (or 80 charging points) were installed in our municipality in collaboration with OPC and Total. 30 charging stations (or 60 charging points) are planned for the coming months to be operational by the Easter holidays 2024. Fastned’s fast charging station completes the puzzle. In this way, Knokke-Heist is rapidly realizing its ambitions regarding the local energy and climate pact of 2030.”
