In Berendrecht there are 3,000 solar panels on 261 social single-family homes (Berendrecht-Zandvliet-Lillo)

In Berendrecht, more than 3,000 solar panels were installed on the 261 social single-family homes in the district behind the former postal building.

Social housing company Woonhaven manages approximately 24,000 social homes in Antwerp. Improving energy efficiency is an important principle in managing and renovating homes.

“Today everyone is trying to reduce their energy costs, including social tenants. That is why Woonhaven is taking the lead in helping social tenants save in an environmentally conscious way,” says Els van Doesburg, councilor for housing and chairman of Woonhaven. For example, specific efforts are being made to install solar panels on social single-family homes.

For this purpose, Woonhaven works together with the cooperative company Aster. Aster supports various social housing companies in activating their solar potential and with other energy and sustainability issues. We collaborate with the EnergyVision company for the installation of the solar panels.

The orientation of the roofs and the technical feasibility per location determine where and how solar panels can be installed. “In the first phase we are installing solar panels on single-family homes and Berendrecht was the first in that area,” says Els van Doesburg. (evdw)
