The 31-year-old healthcare worker who was arrested on Saturday for sexual offenses in the Ocura residential care center in Voeren was dismissed with his own consent. “He had been working in the residential care center for 11 years and, as far as we know, has never crossed the line before.”

The man is suspected of having compromised the sexual integrity of an 89-year-old resident of the residential care center. The sexual offenses are said to have taken place on Friday evening and were reported to the Voeren police on Saturday morning. The man was arrested that afternoon. The investigating judge in Tongeren decided to arrest him.

“On Saturday morning, the management initiated the appropriate procedure after the report,” says Patrick Siborgs, general manager of Ocura. “The employee was dismissed with his own consent. The person had already worked in the residential care center for eleven years and, as far as we know, has never crossed the line before.”

“The victim and her family were informed on Saturday morning. Psychological help is offered to them. The staff also received the necessary information during a meeting on Monday morning. This afternoon the other residents and family were informed. Anyone who wants it will receive psychological help. Ocura regrets the incident, especially since there is a strict work protocol.”
