Drama for Maria Timofeeva. The world number 99 in women’s tennis was robbed for the second time in a few months in Spain, this time in Madrid.

The 20-year-old Russian was in the Spanish capital to claim a place in the main draw of the WTA tournament. However, Timofeeva crashed in the second qualifying round. She lost to the British Harriet Dart in three sets: 6-4, 3-6 and 5-7. In the first round the Russian had won against the French Fiona Ferro.

To make matters worse, Timofeeva noticed afterwards that around 10,000 euros had disappeared from her bank account. “Hello everyone, Maria Timofeeva here,” the Russian begins her story on Instagram. “I’m back in Spain six months later and I’ve been robbed again. So I would like to share my story and could really use some advice from people who may have been in a similar situation or who can tell me how this could have happened. I’m panicking because I don’t know how or what because I physically had my card with me at all times except for one point when I left it in my room while the room was being cleaned. The circumstances are crazy… Share this and be aware that this can happen here. It happens every damn time I come here. It’s just getting out of hand.”

Timofeeva said that she has spoken to the Madrid police and that she hopes that the lost amount will be recovered. Her account has been frozen for the time being.

“The purchases were made here in Madrid, near where I stay,” said the desperate Russian. “Normally you need a confirmation code for this, which appears on my phone. However, that did not happen here.”
