The Lanaken-Maasmechelen police have started an investigation into arson after a car caught fire in Lanaken late on Friday evening. Video footage shows two people on a moped stopping next to the car and one of them throwing a kind of bomb inside.
The East Limburg fire brigade received the report from Hugo Verrieststraat around just before 11 pm on Friday. When we arrived at the scene, the fire in the car was already extinguished. The fire brigade just had to do a check. All in all, the damage was limited.
The Lanaken-Maasmechelen police have started an investigation. “Because there is a suspicion of arson, the car was legally towed for a trace investigation,” it said. “A neighborhood survey is also being conducted and if there are any camera images, they will be analyzed.”
Video footage shows two people on a moped stopping next to the car around 10:50 p.m. The passenger gets off and throws something inside. Then an explosion can be seen and the car catches fire.
