Police officer named in file that led to fatal house search in Charleroi remains in jail

--

The police officer was arrested on Monday together with two colleagues in a (different) case of forgery and embezzlement. In addition, there are also accusations of abuse of office, violation of professional secrecy and unlawful consultation of databases.

But the man is also charged in the investigation into gang formation, which led to a house search in Lodelinsart on Monday. The search was carried out with reinforcement of the special units. They were then fired upon. A 36-year-old member of the special forces died and two others were injured. The perpetrator later died from injuries sustained during the shootout.

In that investigation, the arrest of the police officer was extended by the council chamber today. However, according to the Charleroi public prosecutor’s office, there are no indications that the man had contact with the shooter and that he informed him of the search.

In the separate file, the three officers were released under conditions, but the public prosecutor’s office has appealed against the decision of the council chamber. This means that the three in that file will remain in custody for the time being.
