The best medicine

Can you believe it? Kissing against hay fever! It almost sounds too good to be true, but according to Japanese researchers it really is. They discovered that half an hour of kissing can reduce hay fever symptoms. During kissing, the production of histamine – the substance that causes sneezing, a runny nose and watery eyes – decreases significantly. Say goodbye to those annoying symptoms! Who would have thought the solution was just a few kisses away?

Ah, that pesky hay fever! Do you suffer from itchy eyes, sniffling and sniffling? Ugh, we all know it! About twenty percent of Dutch people suffer from it. The biggest culprit of this discomfort (and especially that stuffy nose) is an allergic reaction to pollen. You know, that dusty stuff in the middle of plants, grasses and trees. Of course, not everyone is allergic to the same plants and trees. Some people mainly suffer from hay fever in the spring, while others are plagued in the summer. So it varies per person! But what can you do against hay fever? After all, no one wants a runny nose, sneezing and itchy eyes.

Kissing the antidote to hay fever

Some people turn to hay fever tablets with antihistamines to tackle that allergic reaction. But did you know that you can also combat hay fever with your diet? So eating healthy and paying attention to what you eat can help against all that sniffling and sniffling. But if you don’t feel like eating a banana or a lettuce leaf, don’t worry! There is another solution, and it may be a much nicer way to get rid of those annoying symptoms!

Researchers from the Satou Hospital in Japan claim that you can reduce hay fever by kissing! Yes really! By kissing you can completely relax, and that is said to reduce the production of histamine, the substance responsible for your hay fever complaints.

During the study, twenty-four couples with hay fever were tested. They were instructed to kiss for thirty minutes. Their histamine level was measured beforehand. And guess what? After kissing, histamine levels decreased in all couples. This effect was not visible in the control group, which only hugged and did not kiss. So if your lover isn’t convinced about a kiss while you’re sniffing through all that pollen, you know what to say!

Small-scale research

Although we have absolutely no objection to the use of kissing as a remedy for that annoying hay fever, Dutch experts and researchers think differently! Dutch experts are quite skeptical about this research. For example, professor of immunology Huub Savelkoul said in an interview with Nu.nl that the design of the study with only 24 subjects is too limited. But hey, your lover will definitely be willing to participate in this experiment.

More tips

Do you have no one to kiss or does the idea make you feel stuffy? Don’t worry, you’re not doomed to that nasty hay fever forever! Fortunately, there are plenty of other tips that can provide relief. For example, get your jar of Vaseline from the bathroom cabinet and apply it around your nostrils. A spoonful of honey can also do wonders for your symptoms. Place a wet washcloth on your itchy eyes for some relief, and… last but not leasttry to go to the gym or cinema at the right time.
