Tesla removes Full Self Driving from beta in US – IT Pro – News

--

Despite the enormous computing power of Tesla’s Mojo (the supercomputer that does the training), the HW in the car for AI applications is still quite limited. Storing a complete AI model in the storage of HW3/HW4 is also a big challenge, so I don’t see it happening for the time being. Although the current state of affairs at Tesla is a huge achievement, it is nothing compared to what is promised.

When I bought my Tesla 5.5 years ago, the website already stated that the car would “soon” be able to drive independently through the city. That still stands today and it’s still the same BS as it was back then. The situation is somewhat simpler in the US, but there too it is absolutely not self-driving. It is more like someone who still has driving lessons and that as a driving instructor you are allowed to intervene occasionally. Then I prefer to take matters into my own hands and do everything myself.

I think it’s all fine for on motorways. These are usually clear situations and quite boring. Humans are very bad at that and computers are good at it. Let the computer run there and I will take care of the non-boring part (e.g. the heart of Amsterdam). People still excel there.
