If there is one thing we are good at in the Netherlands, it is complaining about the weather. I always work hard on that. Especially in recent months, when the cold seemed to never end and the rain just kept pouring down. But fortunately the sun is showing itself more and more and the temperature is finally rising. Not only do we like that, but nature also literally and figuratively flourishes.
I really enjoy that. The landscape of Borsele has always been beautiful, but in spring it really comes to life. The trees are green again, the blossoms and flowers add color to our community. Also nice are the lambs, foals and calves that happily walk through the meadow. There have been a number of sheep with lambs opposite the town hall for some time now. I have seen many passers-by look at them tenderly or hear them talk to them.
Spring is also the time to start walking, running or cycling more often. Our beautiful Borselse landscape is very suitable for this. My wife Arieke recently pointed out a nice event in our municipality on June 15: ‘Zak te Voet’. A summer morning walk through Borsele Landscape Park. And not just any one. While walking you will be treated to various Zeeland acts from, for example, musicians, dancers and poets.
That’s killing two birds with one stone: enjoying Zeeland’s nature and culture. The only downside is that you can’t sleep in this Saturday. The walk starts between 5:00 and 7:00 am. But morning has gold in its mouth! If our schedule allows it, Arieke and I certainly hope to participate.
