The best locations where Fallout 5 can take place

--

Todd Howard has made it clear that Fallout 5 will once again be set in the United States. But there are still plenty of interesting locations in the country, of which these are on our wish list.

New York City

When you think of the United States, you will probably immediately think of one of the most iconic cities in the world: New York City. We have already visited Washington DC in Fallout 3, but the city full of skyscrapers has not yet been featured in Bethesda’s post-apocalyptic games.

It is an interesting location to visit. The city would undoubtedly have been a major target during the Great War, given New York City’s population density and economic importance. Together with Wall Street, it is one of the cradles of capitalism.

The city also lends itself well to a diverse world. The different neighborhoods of New York City all feel different and we may actually be able to go up to the heights in a Fallout game with the skyscrapers. The surrounding region also provides the necessary nature, so that you are not alone in an urban jungle.

Alaska

One of the American states that is often quite forgotten is Alaska. After all, it is separated by Canada and often not much international news comes out of the state. Only Sarah Palin used to provide the necessary headlines.

But in the Fallout universe, Alaska plays a major role. The state was the main stage for the war between China and the United States. It was the place where the first Power Armors were deployed, one of the most evocative ‘items’ from Fallout. The Battle of Anchorage is probably also the most famous battle in the universe and one that you can replay in the Fallout 3 DLC Operation Anchorage.

It will therefore be an interesting location to use for Fallout 5. The region may still have some Chinese influences and the flora and fauna is completely different from the rest of the United States. Let’s just play around in the radioactive snow.

Hawaii

From cold Alaska we go to almost the complete opposite setting: sunny and tropical Hawaii. While Alaska is far removed from the rest of the United States, this is especially true for the archipelago. About 4000 kilometers to be precise.

In the games we actually learned almost nothing about the fate of Hawaii during the Great War. Has the archipelago been wiped out by a few bombs or is everything basically still standing?

That blank canvas makes it an interesting setting for Bethesda and the players. Perhaps the residents of Hawaii are completely unaware of what has been happening on the mainland, but have become cut off from the rest of the world. Or possibly the Chinese army has raided. The possibilities are endless and we are very curious to see what Bethesda can make of it.
