Four matches from the end, Anderlecht is still in pole position to be crowned national champion. The major clean-up that Jesper Fredberg carried out last summer in the core is therefore paying off. Although the cleaning is not finished yet.

To make room for the many incoming transfers, Purple & White allowed many unnecessary pawns to leave this season. For example, a few expiring contracts were not renewed, and Fredberg managed to dump some expensive flops from the past.

Work for Fredberg

However, not a solution was found for everyone. A lot of excess ballast was still left in place, especially in midfield. For example, Kristian Arnstad may or may not have final decision, just like Majeed Ashimeru and Amadou Diawara.

The situation appears to remain unchanged, especially for the latter duo. Although Ashimeru has resurfaced recently with a few good substitute appearances. Here and there it even sounds that he may appear at the kick-off against Union.

Riemer dumps Diawara

In the case of Diawara, however, his story in the Lotto Park seems to have ended irrevocably. The 26-year-old Guinean even had to appear with the RSCA Futures in an exhibition match against FC Liège on Wednesday, which won 5-3.

In the title race, Riemer no longer seems to be counting on Diawara, who was the only player from the first team to take action. A year before his very expensive contract expires, the people of Brussels undoubtedly hope to remove the big earner from the payroll.
