Xavi Hernandez will still respect his ongoing contract as trainer of FC Barcelona. In January, the former midfielder announced that he would leave at the end of the season, but in the end both parties will continue together. Barça confirmed this to the French news agency AFP on Wednesday evening.
Earlier in the day, Spanish media had already reported that Xavi would be willing to let out his contract until 2025. In recent days there have been intensive consultations with chairman Joan Laporta and sporting director Deco.
The 44-year-old Xavi has been training Barcelona, the club with which he achieved countless successes as a player, since November 2021. He then succeeded the Dutchman Ronald Koeman. At the end of January, after a 3-5 defeat to Villarreal, he said that he would leave the Catalan top club in the summer.
