Julian Alaphilippe’s contract expires at the end of this year with Soudal Quick-Step. There is a good chance that he will leave and he is mainly courted by French teams.

Julian Alaphilippe (31) has been riding for Patrick Lefevere’s professional team since 2014. It seems unlikely that there will be a sequel in 2025. Lefevere has repeatedly stated that he regrets Alaphilippe’s expensive contract.

Since Lefevere never offers a rider a new contract that is worth less than the previous one, Alaphilippe seems to be leaving Soudal Quick-Step. The French teams Cofidis and TotalEnergies would like to accommodate Alaphilippe.

Yet Cofidis does not want to sign Alaphilippe at any cost. The team risks relegation from the WorldTour in 2026 and must perform over the next year and a half to score enough UCI points.

Cofidis doubts Alaphilippe’s performance

“As team manager I would really like to work with him, but so far we haven’t really talked seriously,” says Cédric Vasseur at GCN. “We don’t want to bring Alaphilippe in for the name alone.”

“We want to bring Alaphilippe to Cofidis for what he can give to the team. He is having a hard time at the moment, so we will wait and see and of course we don’t want him to come to Cofidis to play ball.”

“If Julian comes to us, he will have to perform to bring us between 2,000 and 2,500 UCI points. I am not sure at the moment that he can do that. I don’t want to bring him in because I value and respect him. “
