During the E3 Saxo Classic, Mathieu van der Poel was angry with the hundreds of supporters who stood on the roadway and the center conductors on top of the Kwaremont. During the press moment of the governor of East Flanders Carina Van Cauter, both the governor and Flanders Classics CEO Tomas Van Den Spiegel called on supporters not to stand on the road. “The public road between the red and the green flag is exclusively for the riders,” both said. “Do not stand on the road, do not cross the road or stand on raised medians.”

“We provide many closing gates in the truth zones so that such situations occur less often during the Tour of Flanders, but you must always guarantee the riders a free track,” Van Den Spiegel added. “Be careful with your mobile phone, make sure that the course of the race is always sporty. Have respect for the riders.”
