On Saturday, the car of Laura Trappeniers (66) and Marc Olbrechts (71) was found in Tenerife, VTM NIEUWS learned. People had been looking for the blue Opel Mokka since the disappearance of the Flemish couple. “We are relieved, but still have many questions,” say their friends.

“Good friends of the couple found the car themselves yesterday when they were searching in the area,” says VTM NIEUWS reporter Tessa Rens, who is on site in Tenerife. “They found the car in a main street of a hamlet, not far from where the couple lived and disappeared. They therefore notified the police.”

Clothes and knife

A lot of friends have driven around the spacious neighborhood several times over the past two weeks, but always without success. The blue Opel Mokka with Spanish license plate was eventually found on the side of a track in the hilly town of Adeje, which mainly consists of hotels made for beach tourists. It is a long street, a place where there is quite a lot of traffic.

The friends who found the car immediately recognized Laura’s clothes and sunglasses on the seat. Next to it, near the car radio, is a knife. It is unclear how big that knife is and whether any traces of violence were found. However, it appears that the car is not locked.

The Guarda Civil in turn arrives on the scene and tows the car. Sources close to the investigation confirm that it concerns Marc and Laura’s Opel Mokka. The Spanish police are currently still investigating the vehicle. The Guarda Civil does not want to provide any additional information yet, because a press stop has been imposed.

Lots of question marks

“We are happy that the car has been found,” says Daniel, the French neighbor of the Flemish couple who has been interrogated several times as a witness. “This morning the police came to good friends of Marc and Laura to pick up the second car key to the Opel Mokka, a copy. Marc and Laura had entrusted that key to their good friends in case they lost their own key.”

“We hope that this find will provide more information for investigators,” says Daniel. “They don’t want to say much at the moment, but we assume that is good news. It means that they may have one or more perpetrators in mind. If Marc were found alive, that would be fantastic. But the questions about what happened and why remain.”

Disappearance

The couple, Laura Trappeniers (66) and Marc Olbrechts (71), had lived in Tenerife for several years but were reported missing there two weeks ago. The two were last seen on April 22. The body of Laura Trappeniers was found in the sea, she died as a result of violence.

There is still no trace of Marc Olbrechts. Shortly after their disappearance, the alarm went off when someone touched a camera at the Flemish couple’s house. The mysterious man who spoke to Laura just before the disappearance and about whom the woman had a bad feeling also still raises many questions.
