Basket Brussels will probably play its last trump card towards the Belgian play-offs on Friday evening at 8:30 PM in Elite Silver. A win at home against Kortrijk Spurs is on the cards. Otherwise the final round will probably no longer be feasible.

With last week’s defeat at Yoast United Nijmegen, Basket Brussels has been in particularly bad shape heading into the Belgian play-offs. With only three games left in Elite Silver, the club from the capital is now two points behind the leading trio Kangaroos Mechelen, Leuven Bears and Bergen. It no longer has its own fate in its own hands towards the final round.

Terry Deroover and his teammates still have to achieve a perfect series, while the three competitors have to fail. If the people of Brussels end up on a level playing field with Mechelen, Leuven or Bergen, they will have the advantage due to the better starting position in the regular competition. A refresher: the eight best Belgian teams – all five from Elite Gold supplemented with the top three from Elite Silver – qualify for the play-offs.

A win is a must against the already eliminated Kortrijk Spurs on Friday. Who knows, Leuven Bears, which is struggling with a few injuries, may lose at home to LWD Leeuwarden. Then there would just be light at the end of the tunnel for Brussels.

Two important pawns

Coach Serge Crevecoer has since apologized to the loyal Brussels fans on social media. “I understand your frustrations very well. We are indeed missing something consistent in our performance. But we are missing two important pawns with our British guard Jelani Watson-Gayle and our French forward Thomas Hanquiez. We realize all too well that we are not in a good position heading into the Belgian play-offs. However, you stand behind us in bad and good days and with your support we want to play our two remaining home games next Friday and on the final matchday (May 3, ed.) win against Feyenoord Rotterdam,” said Crevecoeur.
