British former Prime Minister Boris Johnson was sent away from a polling station without doing anything because he violated a law that he himself introduced

When he was Prime Minister of the United Kingdom, Boris Johnson introduced the rule that those who voted must be able to produce an official document for identification. On Thursday, during the local elections, the conservative politician apparently forgot his own law, Sky News reports.

Johnson showed up at the polling station without identification. “Polling station staff had to expel the former prime minister after he failed to comply with legislation he introduced during his time in Downing Street,” the British television channel said.

Johnson wanted to cast his vote in South Oxfordshire, where he lives with his family. Johnson’s spokesman did not deny the report, but said the former prime minister had cast his vote.

The law, which was introduced in 2022, stipulates that people must identify themselves with an official photo document such as a passport or driver’s license. Opponents say the scheme discriminates against poorer and older people and members of minorities who are less likely to have ID.

The 59-year-old Johnson had called on X in the morning to vote for the Conservative Party of his successor Rishi Sunak.
