The Delta Airlines Boeing 767 had just taken off from JFK Airport in New York when a panel on the right side came loose. That panel hid the emergency slide, and it fell down. The pilots noticed a vibration and an unusual sound and received a warning about the emergency slide through their systems.

The plane then turned back to JFK Airport and made an emergency landing there. According to Delta Airlines, the plane was able to land and taxi to a gate under its own power. There were 176 passengers, 5 stewards and 2 pilots on board. No one was injured. The passengers, who were headed to Los Angeles, were put on another flight.

“Nothing is more important than the safety of our customers and staff. The crew followed the procedures required by their extensive training to return to JFK,” Delta Airlines said in a statement. The device has been taken out of circulation and is being thoroughly inspected. “We are working with the investigators and are doing everything we can to find the emergency slide,” Delta Airlines said.
