Amit Soussana, a 40-year-old woman kidnapped during the Hamas raid on settlements in Israel on October 7, 2023, was sexually abused during her captivity in Gaza. The released hostage told this to ‘The New York Times’, who was able to speak to the woman for hours. “After I washed, he suddenly stood in the doorway.”

According to ‘The New York Times’, Amit Soussana (40) is the first woman to speak publicly about her sexual assault while in captivity in Gaza. The abuse started a few days after the October 7 raid. The moment when some men kidnapped her was captured on video footage (see above).
After her kidnapping, Soussana was locked up alone and chained in a bedroom full of children’s belongings. Her guard, who called himself Muhammad, started inquiring about her sex life after just a few days and offered to massage her.
“Sometimes he came in, sat next to me on the bed, lifted my blouse and touched me,” says the lawyer. She describes her attacker as a plump, balding man of average height and with a wide nose.
“Gun to forehead”
Around October 24, the woman was untied by her guard and escorted to a bathroom. “After I had washed, he suddenly stood in the doorway. He came up to me and pushed a gun against my forehead,” Soussana said. Muhammad made her take off the towel she was wearing. He groped her and took her back to the bedroom, where he forced her to perform more sexual acts.
Amit Soussana (40) was ultimately held in captivity for 55 days before being released at the end of November. The lawyer’s public testimony echoes previous horrific stories of rape and sexual abuse of women by Hamas during and after the October 7 attack.
