Club Brugge has not yet lost in the play-offs. They drew once and won the rest. This makes them title candidates again. A big difference with Ronny Deila and according to Paul Okon that has everything to do with Nicky Hayen.

Hayen knew what he had to tackle first when he was appointed. “The organization at Club has been a lot better since Nicky Hayen took over,” said Paul Okon in an interview with The newspapaer. “He’s doing amazingly well. I don’t see why Club wouldn’t consider appointing Hayen for the longer term.”

Okon previously worked with Hayen when he was an assistant to Carl Hoefkens and Hayen was still at Club NXT. “I can only praise Nicky – the difference is night and day with Deila. At Club they must gradually regret that they did not make that choice earlier.”

It brings the Club legend back to a statement by Bart Verhaeghe. He believes that if the structure is good, it does not matter who is the trainer. Hayen proves the opposite.

Why were there three trainers last season?

“Why did Club release Deila just before the play-offs? And why were there three trainers last season? If it doesn’t matter who is on the line, then you might as well not change.”

He also returned to his own dismissal when Hoefkens had to leave. That’s how it goes these days. If the trainer flies outside, his assistants can also grab their things. I don’t feel any resentment, I could understand the circumstances, but maybe I would have done it differently.”
