Guterres calls for a ceasefire

UN chief Antonio Guterres called for an immediate ceasefire between Israel and Hamas during his visit to the Gaza border crossing. He also requested that Israel allow urgently needed humanitarian aid to pass through to the Gaza Strip.

“The Palestinians in Gaza, children, women, men, are stuck in an endless nightmare. Communities have been wiped out, homes destroyed, entire families and generations wiped out,” Guterres said. “Nothing justifies Hamas’ horrific attacks on October 7 and nothing justifies the collective punishment of the Palestinian people. Now more than ever, it is time for an immediate ceasefire,” he continued.
