WHAT PRECEDED

• On Friday, May 5, 2023 at 4:10 PM, a fight broke out at Zaventem station. Three young people ended up on the tracks. Just then a high-speed train arrived. A 22-year-old from Etterbeek was seized and died on the spot. A 16-year-old lost a leg and a third youngster was able to climb onto the platform just in time.

• The fight is said to have started after a misunderstanding. A student from Zavo secondary school in Zaventem had called two Brussels friends because he was having problems. These friends had each in turn gathered a group of comrades. In the station a fight broke out between the two groups who did not know that they had all come to Zaventem to ‘help’ the same boy.

• All suspects have now been released. The 22-year-old MM from Molenbeek – the third runner on the track – initially had an ankle bracelet, but was released on conditions in June. This year he will compete for the Correctional court must be held accountable.
