There is the sun, there are our editors who recommend their favorite terraces! From Ghent to Maasmechelen: at these 8 hotspots you can enjoy the tastiest drinks and snacks and the best passage with the sun on your face.

Bar Popular in Mechelen

Editor Dewy: ‘What a successful terrace needs in addition to sun and good company, in my opinion, is a tasty and, above all, affordable cocktail. You will find it every time at Bar Popular on the Vismarkt in Mechelen. On the cozy terrace on the water with a Sweet Cosmo in your hand, you’ll feel like you’re on holiday. Bar Popular is really one of those places where you lose track of time and just enjoy the moment. Who wouldn’t want that?’

Café Ventura in Ghent

Editor Ysaline: ‘I find it difficult to choose a favorite, because I like to change places, but one terrace that stands out for me is that of Café Ventura in Ghent. They have a super large terrace where you can enjoy the sun in the afternoon and a lot of fun in the evening because it is packed. Share a bottle of wine there with friends and a snack, and your evening out is great.’

Café Entrepot in Leuven

Editor Annelies: ‘My favorite terrace is literally around the corner from me: Café Entrepot. This cozy café is located on the ground floor of OPEK, the cultural site at the Vaartkom in Leuven, and has a large terrace where you can sit very comfortably. I’m especially a fan of the nachos, but the ever-changing tapas offering is also highly recommended! You won’t really sunbathe on the terrace, because it is in the shade in the evening. But the nice atmosphere makes up for it all.’

Showcase in Antwerp

Editor Catherine: ‘The best terrace of the cozy Marnixplaats in Antwerp is without a doubt that of Vitrin. The café is the perfect spot for people watching and you always bump into old acquaintances here. The cocktails and mocktails are highly recommended, as is the Gelato Giuliano ice cream parlour next door. Any downside to Vitrin? The early closing hour, but then there is always the Mechelseplein.’

VIERNULVIER Café in Ghent

Editor Herlinde: ‘My favorite terrace is the Vooruit or VIERNULVIER as it is now called. You sit comfortably high up, so you can spot people unashamedly, because hello: isn’t that the most fun thing to do when you enjoy an aperitif on a terrace? They have an extensive drinks menu and delicious nachos, because a drink naturally requires a snack. On the steps of the terrace there are colorful rocking chairs where you can rock comfortably; the fact that everything moves for a while is not due to that third Aperol Spritz.’

Café Kamiel in Antwerp

Editor-in-chief Eva: ‘Ever since I felt a ray of sunshine, you can find me at Café Kamiel. I call it a bit of an extension of our garden, because it is within walking distance. A big advantage here is that there is a playground and park, making it a nice place to go with my daughter. She makes friends in the playground, we drink an organic rosé on the terrace. Win win! The nice thing is that we almost always spot someone we know there. On Thursday it is spaghetti evening and then it is great fun to join us on the terrace. Bolognaise or veggie à volonté with a glass of red wine and I feel like I’m on holiday. A mini vacation then.’

Terland in Maasmechelen

Social media manager Demi: ‘Terland is the number one in Maasmechelen place to be when it’s hot, especially when the beach bar is open. Yes, you heard right: beach bar! The terrace is located on a landscaped beach on a large pond – where you can swim in the summer – with a beautiful view. I can’t wait to drink my first frozen pornstar martini in the sun with a large bowl of nachos in front of me. Yummy!’

Where? Nationaal Parklaan 1, 3650 Dilsen-Stokkem

The Golden Fish in Mechelen

Editor Evi: ‘There is no one in Mechelen who does not know the terrace of De Gouden Vis. Although the entrance is a bit hidden in the Nauwstraat, the terrace is completely open, with a view of the Dijle. In summer it is wonderful to relax in the evening sun, which shines on the terrace until the very last moment. My favorite drink at De Gouden Vis is always an ice tea and I think every Mechelaar can undoubtedly agree with me. Their ice tea – in a giant glass, with extra ice cubes – hits different.
