This is one of the great stories from the end of this season in First National. Logan Bailly, retired since 2020, has put on the gloves again for Excelsior Virton!

Surprise in Virton last Saturday. The circumstances forced the goalkeeper coach to put on the gloves and take a seat between the posts. Small detail: this goalkeeper coach has 8 caps with the Red Devils and more than 60 Bundesliga matches to his name.

Because this goalkeeper coach is… Logan Bailey (38 years). The former goalkeeper of Genk, OH Leuven, Borussia Mönchengladbach, among others, played for the first time since March 2024 and his last substitute appearance as a player at UR Namur.

Released by Union Saint-Gilloise in April 2023, Bailly found a job in Gaume in August and his work at Excelsior Virton is highly appreciated. But of course it was unexpected to see him on the field. “We had been talking about it for a while, but I had to feel ready,” he explains to La Dernière Heure.

Before his return, Bailly conceded two goals, but Virton defeated Heist 4-2 and could end up in the top 6, which would mean a final round for promotion. In any case, the return to goal might not be a “one-off event” for the former Red Devil.

During his interview, Logan Bailly confirmed that Virton’s coach, Jérôme Arpinon, would like to have him among the goalkeepers of his core next season. At least as number 2. In terms of experience and talent, it is difficult to find better at this level!
