The plan is to only have vehicles inspected every two years from the age of four, until the odometer reaches 160,000 kilometers or the vehicle is ten years old. This is followed by another annual inspection.

The reform also means that passenger cars and light trucks and trailers can also be inspected outside an approved inspection center, such as in a garage. This also applies to a second-hand inspection.

The Flemish government has now approved the reforms for a second time. “Going to the inspection every two years means less administrative burden, both for the owners and the inspection centers, and that increases the efficiency of the entire system. In this way we eliminate the queues at the inspection centers, something that many citizens have been looking forward to for a long time. “, says Minister Peeters.

Date of first entry into service

Now that the Flemish government has given a second approval, advice is still being sought from the Council of State. “This will be followed by final approval by the Flemish government and the measure will be rolled out in phases over a period of three years.”

“The gradual introduction will be based on the age of the vehicle, starting from the date of first entry into service.”
