The agenda of the Brussels Regional Security Council included several program items, such as the structure of regional coordination, the determination of hotspots and the approval of some security measures. The police services have determined the hotspots. The mayors in turn approved them.

Three pillars

This concerns a total of fifteen hotspots: Antwerpsesteenweg, Matongé, IJzer, Krakeel, Versailles, Hallepoort, Clémenceau, Peterbos, Sint-Antonius, Zuidstation, Noordstation, Zwarte Vijvers, Ribaucourt, Bonnevie and Paal/Kolom.

The locations are further demarcated in police decisions of the local authorities. “The intention is to take actions at those locations that are based on three pillars, namely safety, prevention and life in the neighborhood,” it said. (Read more below the box)

The Security Council also approved security measures to support the work of police zones. This concerns measures regarding fireworks and laughing gas for the entire Region.

Within the hotspots there is a ban on the sale and use of alcohol, the permission to systematically carry out identity checks, possibly together with body searches, and the possibility of confiscating dangerous objects or objects that encourage drug use and the fight against ‘ drive-ins’. (amg)
