Degryse believes more in Red Devils

An outsider for the European Championship 2024. After the friendly match against Ireland (0-0), a different tone was heard. However, the Red Devils then played with an experimental team. Domenico Tedesco made different choices against England.

No Koen Casteels and Kevin De Bruyne due to injuries. Timothy Castagne, Zeno Debast, Jan Vertonghen and Arthur Theate played for Matz Sels. Things did not always go well defensively. The midfield was there, with Amadou Onana, Orel Mangala and Youri Tielemans. Romelu Lukaku received support up front from Leandro Trossard and Jérémy Doku.

The Red Devils soon achieved a 1-2 victory in Wembley. Thousands of English fans had already left their seats and saw Jude Bellingham fail to equalize just before the whistle.

Aren’t the Red Devils too dependent on Kevin De Bruyne and Romelu Lukaku? “The best Youri Tielemans is coming,” says former international Marc Degryse at Het Laatste Nieuws. “They have a team that can surprise the top players as outsiders. The match against England offers no guarantees, but it is a boost compared to Saturday.”

On June 5, the Red Devils will play against Montenegro in Brussels. A match against Luxembourg follows three days later. On June 17, they will play their first match at the 2024 European Championship in Germany against Slovakia. They will meet Romania and Ukraine in the group stage.
