Beauty salon sealed in drug case: 13 kilos of hashish seized, ex-kickboxing champion arrested (Domestic)

In a drug investigation by the local police, ten suspects were arrested during seventeen house searches. Five cars were seized and a beauty salon was sealed off on Plantin and Moretuslei. Owner Morad S. (36) was arrested.

The drugs department of the local criminal investigation department of the Antwerp Police Zone raided several places last week. The series of searches were part of a drug investigation that had been going on for some time and initially focused on cocaine trafficking.

During their investigation, the investigators gained insight into various suspects and the transports that the suspects made to France. These movements were part of the smuggling of consignments of hashish. “A car transporting drugs in a hidden space was intercepted in Liège,” said spokesperson Wouter Bruyns of the Antwerp Police Zone.

Ultimately, seventeen addresses in Antwerp, Edegem, Kalmthout, Lier, Wijnegem and Mortsel were identified, where searches were carried out this week. “Ten people were arrested and brought before the investigating judge,” says Bruyns. “In the action, five vehicles, 13 kilos of hashish, 7,000 euros in cash and a Rolex watch were seized.” A beauty salon on Plantin and Moretuslei was sealed after the search on the orders of the investigating judge.

The salon is partly owned by 36-year-old Morad S. who lives close to the business. S. was a talented kickboxer more than ten years ago. In 2013 he won another European title in his weight category. In addition to being a kickboxer, S. is also well-known in the Antwerp drug community. In 2017, he was sentenced to thirty months in prison, half of which was suspended, in a case involving cocaine trafficking. A year earlier he had also been tried, but he was acquitted due to lack of evidence.

In January 2019, Morad S. received a bullet in the leg during a skirmish in his apartment in the Van der Meydenstraat in Borgerhout, probably during a rip deal. According to our information, both S. and the woman who owns the other half of the beauty salon were arrested by the investigating judge. Four other suspects were also placed under arrest.
