England, like Belgium, will have to do without a number of strong players on Tuesday. Harry Kane is certainly not participating and Kyle Walker is highly uncertain.

England already lost 0-1 to Brazil on Saturday. During his press conference, Gareth Southgate looked back on the defeat against Brazil.

“I know that when you lose a match there are always negative reactions. We have learned a lot with a view to the European Championship and that is very important. I have seen boys fighting for a starting place.”

Southgate is looking forward to the meeting with Belgium. After two defeats against the Red Devils during the 2018 World Cup (in the group stage and in the consolation final), the national coach then won 2-1 in the Nations League. Afterwards, England lost to Belgium 2-0.

He is not naive and knows that Belgium’s performance against Ireland does not reflect everything. “You have to train against strong opponents like Brazil and Belgium to see which players we can use at the European Championship,” he stated.

“Against Ireland, the Belgians rotated and played with an almost completely different team than usual. So they will be a bit fresher. Just like against Brazil, this is another high-quality practice match. It will be a great experience for the players.”
