Anderlecht and Standard failed to hurt each other in the women’s Super League play-offs on Saturday. Both title pretenders failed to score in a fiercely fought top match. The draw ensures that the title battle remains extremely exciting, although OHL in particular is rubbing its hands. This could be a golden event in Bruges tonight.

With the leadership position at stake, the stakes were high in the Clasico.

But Anderlecht got off to a battered start. A virus sidelined no fewer than 9 players, including basic pawns such as Sarah Wijnants, Lore Jacobs, Sefania Vatafu and Marie Minnaert.

So it was a matter of survival for the home team, especially in the opening phase of the game against Standard. But the opportunities did not materialize. A blocked attempt by Blave was the most dangerous thing the title competitor had to offer.

In the second half Anderlecht was able to restore the balance and for a moment they might even hope for more after sparkles on the right flank. Thornton missed her shot on a cross from Buabadi.

And yet Standard had the best claim to victory. Substitute Toloba showed herself busy with a bicycle kick, but it did not find a target. And after a good move by Blave, Fon just had to head the ball in, but she fell a few centimeters short.

The visitors saved an ultimate bid for victory and thus the leadership position for the final minutes.

First Toloba tried for an Olympic goal, but Waldbillig was alert and pushed it away from under her crossbar. A little later, Standard’s number 7 tried with a long free kick, and again the Anderlecht goalkeeper came up with an answer. Van Eynde and a deviated cross also did not deceive Anderlecht’s final goal.

And so the match ended as it started, with a scoreless draw. For the time being, Anderlecht is one point ahead of OHL, which can take the lead tonight with a win against Club YLA.
