Club Brugge is fully competing for the title halfway through the play-offs. Yet the Blue and Black are realistic about their title chances.

Club Brugge ended the regular season 19 points behind leader Union. After five matchdays in the play-offs, they are already one point ahead of the people of Brussels. So it can go that fast.

However, Club does not yet have anything in its hands, in the worst case it could even miss out on European tickets. At Blue-Black they keep their feet on the ground, because they know that the most difficult half of the play-offs is now coming for Club.

“If we lose twice on the road, it will look very different,” Maxim De Cuyper realizes. Club travels to Genk on Sunday, then to Antwerp. In between there is also the move to Fiorentina.

Vanaken and Hayen urge calm

Captain Hans Vanaken also realizes that he cannot make any major statements yet. “We were completely written off before the start of the play-offs, now we are barely two points behind the leader.”

“But it remains important to remain calm and look at it match by match. After all, we still have a very tough program ahead of us,” says the captain. Nicky Hayen makes a similar sound.

“Inwardly, the title may be our ambition, but if we lose two or three games soon, they will say that Club is out of the title race. So I remain sober about it.
