Divi’s and app for prostate removal preparation

--

The Rijnstate Hospital has recently updated the patient information for patients who need to undergo a prostate removal. In this way, the hospital wants to prepare its patients even better for treatment and thus contribute to the best result for patient and care provider.

The new patient information is in the form of a Divi from Indiveo. Divi’s are videos and animations that explain to patients what to expect in a short, concise and, above all, understandable manner. Patients receive a message by email that the Divi is ready. The Divi not only shows how a robot-assisted prostate removal works, but also how the patient can best prepare for it.

Use divis

Divi’s have been used more and more in recent years. In 2019, Indiveo entered into a partnership with Luscii to make the educational material available via the Luscii app. And since 2020, healthcare providers who use BeterDichtbij can easily add Divi’s with patient information to messages for patients.

In addition to the Divi, there is also an app available: Untire. This app, which is generally available to all patients in the Netherlands, provides tips for fatigue complaints that often arise from (prostate) cancer. The app has been available for free download since the beginning of this year via the Onco Appstore ofkanker.nl.

Better prepared, lower healthcare costs

Esther van de Bovenkamp, team manager of the Urology outpatient clinic, says: “Thanks to better preparation for treatment, day admission is possible more often than before. It is also expected that outpatient visits will be shorter and more substantive, because patients can better prepare for the appointment. And because this information is always available, patients are well informed about the operation and the possible consequences.”

This will hopefully contribute to higher patient satisfaction and lower healthcare costs. Because digital applications and innovations are desperately needed to keep healthcare available and affordable in the future. It has already been proven that digital tools can reduce the number of check-up visits or other visits to a specialist, which would otherwise cost a lot of time and money.

Prevention

Another option to save on healthcare costs is to use digital applications to prevent diseases. Examples of preventive applications can be found in lifestyle monitoring. Such as apps that provide advice on how to improve based on someone’s exercise and eating pattern. Remote monitoring can prevent complaints of people with chronic conditions from worsening until they require hospitalization.

Melanie Lindenberg-Janse, project leader Innovation and Healthcare Transformation: “In the coming year we will continue to innovatively design the care pathway for patients having a prostate removal. The plan is, among other things, to see how we can offer catheter removal at home using an instructional video.”
