The euphoria after the unexpected title in the Challenger Pro League has already seriously subsided at Beerschot. In a joint statement, sponsors, fans and lodge owners issued an ultimatum: they want clarity about the future by May 15. And for now, only one path seems possible.

The Chinese-European group’s offer was rejected by Prince Abdullah and United World. The Flemish co-owners Francis Vrancken and Philippe Verellen were willing to accept this. They want to leave the club and saw it as a very good offer.

So it is now up to the prince and United World to map out the future as they seem to be burning all other bridges. This season, however, the investments from that side were very small and it is a small miracle that technical director Gyorgy Csepregi was able to put together a champion team with that budget.

And that solution must come quickly, otherwise the sponsors will not want to invest further. TD Gyorgy Csepregi is starting to doubt his future at Kiel and trainer Dirk Kuyt has committed his future to the Hungarian.

Ex-Oostende policy maker Thorsten Theys is responsible for the day-to-day management, but his arrival has not been warmly received by the supporters. This month’s shareholders’ meeting should provide clarity. And a decent budget.

Prince Abdullah and United World are now being looked at for this. They now appear to want to continue with Beerschot, but they do have to invest again. This does mean that the Flemish co-owners will have to put money on the table again. And that while they actually wanted to leave.
