An employee of the Belgian development agency Enabel in Gaza has been killed in a bombing. This was reported by Minister for Development Cooperation Caroline Gennez (Vooruit).

“It was with great sadness that I learned that one of our Enabel employees was killed last night by an Israeli bombardment. Abdallah Nabhan and his 7-year-old son Jamal were killed in an attack on Rafah,” writes Caroline Gennez, Minister of Development Cooperation on X.

“It is with deep sadness and horror that we learn of the death of our colleague Abdallah Nabhan (33) and his seven-year-old son last night following a bombardment by the Israeli army in the eastern part of the city of Rafah,” the minister’s office wrote in a statement. . “Abdallah’s wife is in critical condition in hospital and fighting for her life. The couple’s two other children (aged 5 years and 7 months) suffered minor injuries. Abdullah’s 65-year-old father, his 35-year-old brother and his six-year-old niece also lost their lives,” it continues. “The house where Abdallah’s family was located housed approximately 25 people, including residents and displaced persons seeking refuge there. The attack last night left at least seven people dead and many others injured.”

Minister Gennez and Enabel condemn in the strongest terms this attack on innocent civilians and ask that the other seven colleagues still in Gaza be allowed to leave immediately.

When will it be enough?

“What we feared for a long time has now become reality. This is terrible news,” Gennez said. “I would like to express my deepest condolences to Adballah’s family and friends, his son Jamal, his dad, his brother and his niece, and to all our Enabel employees. Our hearts are broken again today. Abdallah was a father, a husband, a son, a human being. His story and that of his family is just one of tens of thousands. When will it finally be enough? After 6 months of war and destruction in Gaza, we seem to have gotten used to it, but the fact remains that the indiscriminate bombing of civilian infrastructure and innocent civilians is against all international, humanitarian and war laws. The Israeli government bears a crushing responsibility here.”

“I am deeply affected by the death of our colleague and his son, and I am outraged and shocked by the continued attacks,” says Enabel general manager Jean Van Wetter. “This is yet another blatant violation by Israel of international humanitarian law. As director of a Belgian agency and as a former humanitarian worker, I cannot accept that this has continued unpunished for so long. It is tragic that innocent civilians are victims of this conflict. We must do everything we can to stop the violence.”
