The foreign ministers of the 32 NATO member states met today – on the 75th anniversary of the alliance – at NATO headquarters in Brussels. Among other things, a proposal from Jens Stoltenberg, the Secretary General of NATO, is discussed: he wants to set up a fund of 100 billion euros over a period of five years to support Ukraine in the war against Russia.

“We will analyze the feasibility of the proposal,” Lahbib confirmed upon her arrival at NATO headquarters. “It’s important to keep in mind that it’s not charity. It is an investment in our own safety. But on the other hand, it is dangerous to make promises that we cannot keep.”
Stoltenberg himself does not want to go into further detail about the proposal for the time being. In any case, a decision on the fund is not expected immediately, he emphasizes. The aim is to find a consensus by the upcoming NATO summit, which will take place in Washington in July.
