Marieke van Soest has returned to her old level after a serious injury and rehabilitation process.

On Thursday, May 2, she rode the time trial in her tri-bike T1 class. This was driven under very poor conditions. Rain, cold and a strong headwind. Still, she managed to win the race with 2 minutes and 24 seconds ahead of number 2, the current reigning world champion. Even more importantly, with a conversion factor she also managed to beat the riders of the T2 class, because at the Games they compete in 1 group.

The road race had to be held on May 4. Fortunately the weather was nice with less wind. After a tactically well-driven race, Marieke crossed the line first in her class with a lead of 4 min 1 sec. In the T2 class she was 5th, but there are more height differences on the course of the games and there are opportunities for Marieke because she can climb reasonably well.

These results have greatly increased her chances of being selected for the games.

The next challenge is on May 16 and 18 at the World Cup competition in Maniago, Italy.
