Man refuses ribbon: ‘I have nothing to do with the royal family’
A striking message from Friesland: Piet de Haan from Dokkum refused a ribbon earlier on Friday, reports the Frisian channel RTV NOF.

De Haan would receive the award from Mayor Johannes Kramer for the volunteer work he did for years for the Historical Association of North-East Friesland. He didn’t know anything about it himself: De Haan was there for a friend. When he was called forward for his ribbon, he declined it. “This does not feel like an honor to me, but like a stab in the dagger. I have nothing to do with the royal family and actually find it very disturbing.”

“This is exactly how our father is. He is a man of principles and that is okay,” De Haan’s daughter told RTV NOF.

Crowds in Utrecht are decreasing slightly
It is slowly becoming less busy in the city center of Utrecht, the municipality reports. “Would you like to do a little dance? Go to Vredenburg, for example,” reads a message on X. The concert hall is on the edge of the center. The message is accompanied by a map showing other party locations in Utrecht.

The city centers of Utrecht and The Hague are slowly filling up for King’s Night parties
In a number of large cities, the streets and squares are slowly filling up for the celebrations in the run-up to King’s Day. In Utrecht it was busy early due to the flea market that started at the beginning of Friday evening.

“It is too busy at several event squares in the city,” the municipality reports around 9:30 p.m. De Neude is full halfway through Friday evening. “Avoid standing in front of a closed square and go to Domplein, for example,” is the advice.

The Grote Markt in The Hague, where the music festival The Life I Live takes place, is also slowly filling up. Visitors’ bags are checked as a precaution at the entrances to the site, one sees ANP-news reporter.

Police given extra powers in the center of Purmerend due to ‘worrisome rumor’
The center of Purmerend has been designated as a safety risk area during King’s Night. This gives the police additional powers, such as preventive searches and imposing area bans.

The measure was taken by Mayor Ellen van Selm because a “worrying rumor” is circulating among young people on social media, according to the municipality. The police are calling for people to stop sharing the rumor.

The rule applies from April 26 at 6 p.m. to April 27 at 6 a.m.
