Neighborhood shocked after death of man (90) who was pushed off his bicycle: ‘Terrible’

--

Local residents reacted with shock on Tuesday to the news that the 90-year-old man who was pushed off his bicycle in Veldhoven on Friday has died. The people who hear what happened say it is a shame. They have nothing good to say about the 42-year-old man who was arrested for allegedly pushing the victim off his bicycle on the Heemweg.

The victim fell from his bicycle near Lunchroom The Post. Employees caught him after he fell. “He was sitting on a bench in front of the restaurant and was approachable,” Demi Visser explains. “A colleague brought another glass of water and saw that he was very shocked.”

“The police came in, together with his grandson, to ask what had happened. Unfortunately, we did not see it happen,” says Demi. “I think it’s really terrible that he was pushed. You don’t push an old man off his bike. I don’t know why you would do that.”

“That man also has the right to cycle here.”

That disbelief affects more people in Veldhoven. Especially because the victim is a very elderly man. “If necessary, you give the man priority out of respect,” says a local resident. “This really shouldn’t be possible. That man also has the right to cycle here.”

“You wouldn’t wish it on anyone to have to meet your end in such a way. It’s also very sad for the surviving relatives,” says another. “I still dare to cycle, but you have to be careful these days. Of course, you are no longer that mobile at the age of ninety. This is so sad.”

The 42-year-old suspect from Veldhoven will remain in custody for at least another two weeks, it became clear on Tuesday. The police are continuing their investigation and hope that witnesses can provide more information about what happened and the circumstances.
