Every life is precious, no matter how small. The West Betuwe police team proved this on Thursday evening: the officers ran onto the highway in front of twelve ducklings, when a mother duck with her young ones crossed the A15 at the Deil junction and subsequently caused an accident between two trucks.
On Thursday afternoon, the officers saw a mother duck with her ducklings crossing the A15 near the Deil junction from their service car. The police could not stop safely at that moment, but decided to drive back for the yellow fluffy creatures.
“Unfortunately, the damage had already been done.” the police reported on Facebook. ‘There had been a collision between two trucks, probably caused by this mother duck and her chicks.’ One of the two trucks was then towed off the road, after which the A15 was free again. No one was injured in this collision. Meanwhile, the chicks got lost on the median and the highway.
Reinforcements soon arrived to save these twelve lives. Police colleagues arrived with a box and the very young ducks were picked up from the road and brought to safety.
The animals were then collected by the animal ambulance of the Animal Aid Foundation in Tiel. The mother duck could no longer be found.
