French President Emmanuel Macron (46) warned of the decline of Europe during a speech. According to Macron, the continent is “mortal” and is in danger of being surrounded by other major powers. “There is an immense risk that we will be weakened within ten years,” it said.

“We must be aware of the fact that Europe is mortal and can die,” Macron said during his speech at Paris’ prestigious Sorbonne University. The president emphasized that Europe is in danger of being hemmed in by other major powers and that European values are increasingly being “criticized” and “challenged”.

Although Europe, according to Macron, has “rarely made as much progress as during the corona pandemic and the war in Ukraine,” “we are still too slow and too unambitious,” he said. “It only depends on our choices, but they have to be made now.” Otherwise, there is “an immense risk” that Europe will be “weakened” within ten years, the president said.
