Less than a year after a serious fire destroyed a house along Noordlaan in Roeselare, another fire broke out on Saturday evening. The resident, who was suspected of arson last year but was ultimately acquitted, has now been arrested again. There is also now a suspicion of arson.
The Roeselare fire brigade rushed to Noordlaan in Roeselare on Saturday evening just before 7 p.m. A fire had broken out on the top floor of a building that was destroyed in another fire last year. Local residents saw the resident standing on a flat roof waving wildly. The police were able to bring him down and picked up the reluctant man. He was taken away in a combination. “Despite the fact that his house burned down last year, we notice that he still comes here, sometimes even with his children. It is unbelievable that he was actually acquitted and that he is still allowed to come here,” said several neighbors.

Expert public prosecutor’s office investigates cause of new fire
They saw that the fire brigade got the fire under control quite quickly. It is not clear exactly how the fire started. “But we already suspect that it is again arson,” the neighbors said. The public prosecutor’s office appoints an expert to investigate the exact cause of the fire. Due to the incident, Noordlaan was closed to traffic for a long time. (Read more below the photo)

Forgotten cigarette butt
After the incident last year, resident ME (30) claimed that a forgotten cigarette butt was the culprit. According to the public prosecutor’s office, the man allegedly started the fire. “The fire started with bags and boxes of flammable material that could not ignite on their own. A cigarette butt was ruled out, there was no electronic cause. The cause is therefore not accidental,” the public prosecutor’s office said at the time. The judge decided to acquit ME because it could not be proven that ME started the fire.
