Remco Evenepoel is often presented as a difficult character. But is that the case for our compatriot?

José De Cauwer interviewed Patrick Lefevere for Het Nieuwsblad this weekend. Many Soudal-QuickStep issues were discussed. Remco Evenepoel was of course also discussed extensively.

For example, the television commentator asked whether Remco Evenepoel is really such a difficult character as he is often portrayed by everyone. After all, for De Cauwer, Evenepoel is a well-behaved guest.

Real champions

Patrick Lefevere brought out his best imagery and pointed to the door. “José, that door is closed now, but not for Remco, right? If necessary he will walk right through it. That is a trait that many champions have,” replied the CEO of Soudal-QuickStep.

Lefevere is very clear about his pool. “You know as well as I do: you have few or no problems with the great champions. The misery starts with the pseudo-champions. With the entourages that think they have a real champion.”

It is therefore clear that Lefevere is very happy with Remco Evenepoel. For him, he has even changed the approach from Soudal-QuickStep to a team for the grand tour. You don’t just do that, and certainly not for a difficult character.
