SsangYong has occasionally sold a car with a gray license plate in recent years, but the car brand was not really a sales success. This undoubtedly had to do with the sky-high BPM that you had to pay as a private individual. Perhaps they will have more success under the new brand name KGM. It’s off to a good start: you don’t have to pay BPM on the electric Torres EVX, which means they can offer it at a reasonable price in the Netherlands. In fact, the Dutch government has made this EV an additional 2,950 euros more interesting.

The KGM Torres EVX is the first result of the collaboration between KGM and BYD. The Chinese brand provides a lithium iron phosphate (LFP) battery and KGM does the rest. The same type of battery with 60.5 kWh is in the BYD Atto 3. The battery capacity of the KGM is slightly larger at 73.4 kWh. That should take you 462 kilometers. The cheapest Tesla Model Y travels slightly less far, namely 455 kilometers.

In terms of length and width, the Tesla is larger, but the KGM is more than ten centimeters higher. You won’t notice much of this with the maximum luggage space. With the rear seats down you can fit 1,662 liters in the KGM and 2,158 in the Tesla. With the bench up, the differences between the two are not large: 839 liters in the Torres EVX and 854 liters in the Model Y.

Prices of the KGM Torres EVX

The KGM Torres EVX is a bit cheaper than the Tesla. In the Netherlands you now pay at least 43,990 euros for a Model Y. Another 2,950 euros in SEPP will be deducted from this, which means you have to transfer 41,040 euros. Prices for the KGM Torres EVX start at 41,250 euros. Once you have applied for the subsidy, you will lose 38,300 euros.

The more luxurious Platinum version costs 45,550 euros, for which you no longer receive a subsidy. This version gets some extras in the cabin such as luxurious front seats and a heated steering wheel. The top version, the Titanium, costs at least 49,550 euros. This has 20-inch wheels instead of 18-inch and a 360-degree camera films the surroundings when parking.

As a nice bonus, every KGM in the Netherlands receives a seven-year warranty and a ten-year or 1,000,000 kilometer warranty on the BYD battery. In Belgium, the electric Torres costs at least 39,280 euros. You will receive 5,000 euros in return from the Belgian state, so you will ultimately pay 34,280 euros. The Model Y costs at least 45,970 euros, for which you do not receive a subsidy. Perhaps the Torres EVX is worth considering.

A while back we tested the KGM Torres EVX. You can read about this in our April issue of this year, TopGear Magazine 226.
