A judge in New York has ruled that Donald Trump must pay a lower bail of ‘only’ $175 million to appeal the fraud case in which he was convicted last month. He also gets more time for this.

Initially, the American presidential candidate had to pay $464 million by today, which saddled him with major financial problems. Trump now has ten days to deposit the newly agreed amount of 175 million dollars (about 162 million euros).

In mid-February, a judge in New York sentenced Donald Trump to a $355 million fine for deliberately exaggerating the value of his assets in order to obtain more favorable loans. To make matters worse for the ex-president, the fine was increased by 99 million dollars in interest, to a total of 454 million dollars (420 million euros). With the $10 million fine imposed by Trump’s sons Eric and Donald Jr. convicted in the same case, it even amounts to 464 million dollars. The ex-president had complained that he would have to sell properties to raise money.

According to the news agency Bloomberg The court’s decision means that Trump can continue with his appeal in the fraud trial without the risk of his assets being seized. In principle, New York State could have done that starting today, but the ruling on the new bail amount prevents that.
