VEGHEL | It is a criminal offense to drive away after an accident. Yet things often go wrong on Brabant’s roads: last year, 10,315 reports of road users were made. In Meierijstad, 280 drivers drove away in one year after being involved in an accident. This is evident from research by Independer.nl based on police figures and data from the Guarantee Fund.
Colliding with a parked car, driving over a fence or hitting another road user: drivers who cause damage to the vehicle or personal injury must always report to the victim. Even though driving away is a punishable offense, things often went wrong in North Brabant last year. However, there has been a significant decrease in the number of incidents compared to 2022 (-13.8 percent).
These municipalities have the most road users
Within Brabant, Eindhoven is the leader. Last year, 1,380 reports were filed here for driving away after an accident. There were also many victims in Tilburg and Breda. The top 10 municipalities in North Brabant:
1. Eindhoven: 1,380 reports of driving away after an accident.
2. Tilburg: 1,085 reports of driving away after an accident.
3. Breda: 945 reports of driving away after an accident.
4. Den Bosch: 790 reports of driving away after an accident.
5. Roosendaal: 415 reports of driving away after an accident.
6. Helmond: 355 reports of driving away after an accident.
7. Bergen op Zoom: 310 reports of driving away after an accident.
8. Meierijstad: 280 reports of driving away after an accident.
9. Oss: 270 reports of driving away after an accident.
10. Land van Cuijk: 255 reports of driving away after an accident.
In Boekel, a report was drawn up least often for driving away after an accident: 15 in one year. The full research can be found here.
