Google Pixel 8a will be an interesting smartphone, this is what you can expect

--

The unveiling of Google’s new smartphone is getting closer, but a lot is already known about the Google Pixel 8a. KPN and Vodafone were also going to sell it. What does the new Google phone have to offer?

The successor to the Google Pixel 8 and 8 Pro will most likely be unveiled during Google I/O 2024 on May 14. The smartphone is expected to have a price tag of around 500 euros, not much more expensive than the Google Pixel 7a, released last year.

For that price you get a phone with probably a Tensor G3 processor, a 120Hz screen with 1400 nits, 128 or 256 GB of storage and 8 GB of RAM. The device is said to have a 4500 mAh battery and can charge at 27W. The cameras are said to be the same as in the predecessor, although the Pixel 8a camera appears to be equipped with a new sensor.

Seven years of updates

Leaked promotional images show that the Pixel 8a will receive updates for seven years. With the Pixel 8 and 8 Pro, Google also gives you seven years of Android upgrades, but with the Pixel 8a it may only apply to security updates.

Four colors

The design has round, iPhone-like corners and the camera on the back is housed in an aluminum bar. According to a previous leak, the phone has dimensions of 152.1 x 72.6 x 8.99 millimeters. The size of the screen would be 6.1 inches. The resolution of the screen is 2400 by 1080 pixels, exactly the same as the Pixel 7a.

Leaked renders of the phone indicate that it will arrive in four colors: blue, cream, light green and black. They each have a matte finish and are called Obsidian, Porcelain, Bay and Mint respectively.

AI camera features

The Pixel 8a will be equipped with all kinds of useful AI functions such as screening calls with Call Assist and summarizing emails. You can also easily search online without switching apps, but by circling something on your screen.

Like its predecessors, the Pixel 8a also offers the necessary AI camera functions: Audio Magic Eraser, Night Sight and Best Take return.

KPN and Vodafone

In the Netherlands, Vodafone and KPN appear to be planning to sell the Google Pixel 8a. Both providers hint at the sale of Google’s new smartphone, but it is not yet known exactly which models they will offer. Competitor Odido has been selling the Google Pixel phones for some time.

One of the competitors of the Pixel 8a is the new Samsung Galaxy A55.
